IELTS is the world's most widely accepted English-proficiency test - trusted by 11,500+ universities, employers and immigration bodies across 140 countries. At Dictionary, we prepare you for all four modules with a clear, score-focused strategy.
IELTS comes in two flavours - your purpose decides which one you take.
For candidates wishing to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level abroad, and for those seeking professional registration.
For candidates planning to migrate to an English-speaking country or wishing to train/study at below degree level.
Four sections of 10 questions each. The first two cover everyday social situations; the final two are educational or training contexts. Question types include multiple choice, sentence completion, diagram labelling and matching.
Three reading passages of increasing difficulty drawn from journals, books and newspapers - at least one with detailed logical argument. Questions test skimming, scanning, inference and main-idea identification.
Task 1 (150 words) - describe a graph, chart or diagram. Task 2 (250 words) - present a structured argument or point of view. Assessed on coherence, cohesion, lexical resource and grammatical range.
A face-to-face interview with a certified examiner across three parts: introduction, long turn on a topic card, and a two-way discussion. Scored on fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
You and the examiner introduce yourselves. Expect general questions about your home, family, studies, work and interests.
You receive a topic card with prompts. After 1 minute of preparation, you speak for 1-2 minutes. The examiner may ask follow-up questions.
A deeper, more abstract discussion linked to your Part 2 topic - testing your ability to express, justify and defend opinions.
